The history of the Virtual Belgian F-16 Solo Display Team started in 2010. Five enthousiastic people - Wijndel "Wine" Albertsma, Richard "Dutchman" Evertse, René "Sawamura" Morlo, Jan-Petter "Crow" Hovland and Peter "Sweeper" van Woudenberg - did put their minds together to create this virtual demo team. All of them have different skills in the design or flying of flight simulator fighters. They operate the popular 'LockOn Modern Combat' flight sim. The F-16 model, designed by Jan-Petter, was first used with the beautiful RNlAF F-16 orange demo paint scheme on it. The team decided to design the Belgian demo scheme onto their existing F-16 model which Richard was going to fly in the virtual sky. And thus the Virtual Belgian F-16 Solo Display Team was born. Peter flew the RNlAF virtual F-16 and Richard the BAF virtual F-16 on the 2010 edition of the Virtual Festival of Aerobatic Teams (VFAT), both with great success. In early 2011 they decided to form the Virtual Aerobatic Group. Both the virtual Belgian and Dutch F-16s are accompanied by the Flanker C Demo and the Virtual Turkish Stars. In 2010 the team decided to design the new Belgian demo scheme onto their existing F-16 model. And thus the Virtual Belgian F-16 Solo Display Team was born. The skin was updated by Wijndel in 2011. He added the Belgian Air Force text, the roundels and the 65 years anniversary logo. Richard will be flying the Belgian demo on the 2011 edition of the VFAT for the second year in success. Training routine can take up to 12 hours per week to get the necessary skills to fly the entire demo pattern flawlessly and in a very smooth 'groove'.The Virtual Belgian F-16 Solo Display Team will perform during the FS-weekend on November 5-6, 2011 in the Aviodrome aviation museum located at Lelystad airfield, The Netherlands. In December the annual VFAT will be organised in which the team will fly the Belgian Demobird for a worldwide audience on VFAT tv europe. |
