| Gilze-Rijen airshow report |
|
Coinciding with the open house was the Dutch national football team's World Cup match against Japan. A large screen was posted on the airshow for all fans to follow these events. And as we know the Dutch.......
On Thursday morning, June 18th, the team with Sandro, Peter and Wim together with Pier, Neskes and TC to the Netherlands for the 'Open Dagen 2010' held at Gilze-Rijen AB. After only an hour drive we were already there. After checking in to the base the team was welcomed by our colleagues of the Dutch Demo Team. We already met the new team of the Dutch in Denmark (Skrydstrup) and we are looking forward to join the 'Orange Lions' again on shows across Europe for the next two seasons. Mitch took his time for an aerial reconnaissance on his arrival day.
On Friday we had to get up quite early - what's new - because we had to be at the base at 7 am. Just a matter of not having to spend precious time in the traffic jams that are forming around the base very soon. The weather was great and Mitch was in good shape - as ever.
On Saturday the weather was getting worse, but it was still good enough for Mitch to present it's F-16 in a great display, with flares and everything.
![]() An hour after his demo, Mitch was already gone to perform at another airshow for that same weekend, being Orléans in France. At 1:30 pm the Dutch played against Japan en the game could be watched on a big screen, but also in the tent with the Belgian Solo Display Team. Thanks to our friend Lodewijk who got this done. Lodewijk also wrote the Demosong for this years display season. Read all about it!!
The game between the Netherlands and Japan wasn't that good, but in the end the Dutch won, and that was the important thing. The atmosphere at the base was great and got even better with this result.
On Sunday morning the team started it's short journey home. Thanks for the organising team and maybe see you all next year somewhere in the Netherlands!
