July 3, 2010 - Here it is again. The first weekend of July, bringing us back home. One of the nice - but also a little strange - things of being a member of 'small' air force is that the number of displays abroad far exceeds the number of displays at home. This year that number will halt at two. And here's the first one. This year the hosts are the 1st Wing at Beauvechain/Bevekom AB. At this moment a training facility of the Belgian Air Force, but in a former life one could well call it 'fightertown Belgium'.
The theme for this year was the Belgian presidency of the European Council with some attention going to European related activities.
The Belgian Air Force airshow was hosted this year by the 1st Wing at Beauvechain/Bevekom AB. The team for the weekend were Sandro, Peter, Wim and Abby. Normally one would expect that a ride to a Belgian air force base for a Belgian team wouldn't be much of a hassle. Well..... We will never forget the 1.5 hour drive from Kleine Brogel to Beauvechain in 37°C in a van without airco. Anyway, nothing that could withhold us from this family event.

Fortunately we got some cooling on Saturday. The day started out great with a lot of sunshine and soaring temperatures once again. But just after noon, when Mitch had to do his demo, a thunder cell reached the base. Mitch was able to get airborne but it started raining after a few seconds. Mitch did his demo during the thunderstorm and this gave some very attractive sightings. A full afterburner turn towards the black clouds with the vapor trails coming off the wings. Simply magnificent. Pitty for the numerous people who had to take shelter in all the stands on base.
On Sunday, the weather was nice again with lower temperatures. Everyone could enjoy Mitch's demo and the flight with the Airbus and Spitfire. The team also enjoyed themselves.

The team wants to thank everyone who has visited us at our PR-stand and we hope you all enjoyed your stay at Beauvechain and at our booth. Greets and hoping to see you all next year.
