St. Dizier airshow report

St. Dizier airshow - Edwin Huskens

June 18, 2011 - 'La Douce France' revisited. The French airshows are rather thin in 2011. St. Dizier couldn't miss on the team's calendar though. It was after 11 years that the base hosted an airshow and everyone wanted to be there. The weather wasn't great, but a lot of airshow enthusiasts made up for that.

On June 16th the team - with Sandro, Neskes, and TC left with two vans (yes indeed, no airplane this time) to BA113 at Saint-Dizier which hosted an airshow for the very first time in 11 years. After a 5-hour ride in the super comfy military vans (joke) the team was welcomed very warmly at the base and was guided to their bungalows. On Friday "Mitch" and "Rub" landed in the afternoon and Mitch performed his practise demo in front of tenths of spotters who saw 'it was good'.

On both days of the airshow there was a large crowd but the weather seldom cooperated. On Saturday afternoon a heavy thunderstorm unleashed above the base with a lot of rain and large hail. The team never saw that before! The airshow was briefly suspended but when the weather cleared it was in full swing again. The Jordanians however suffered from hail damage on their aircraft and unfortunately couldn't perform due to this unforeseen event. Too bad!

As always on airshows it was a lot of fun at the demo teams boot. Thanks to the colleagues Luc and Fifi who joined the team during the weekend. The team wants to thank the organisation for their job well done. Also a big thanks to all the people who attended the stand.
