| Cazaux airshow report |
|
June 6-7, 2009 - After a lot of preparations, the display season was finally kicked off in the fist weekend of June. Traditionally Cazaux AB in France hosts an international airshow during that weekend. The team already packed there bags on Thursday to perform on both airshow days.
Finally, our first air show with the new demo-team from Kleine Brogel has started. On Thursday June 4th, at 10:00 am we left with an Embraer from Melsbroek to Cazaux in the southern part of France. After a flight of one hour we landed in beautiful weather conditions, sunny and 28° C. We were welcomed by the French cross-servicing who supported us during the whole weekend, many thanks for the support!!! Our display pilot "Mitch" and "Smurf" landed 1 hour later and after the necessary servicing, checks and formalities the whole team is ready to start their first air show. In the evening we checked in in our hotel and the whole team went to Arcachon to have a nice diner. You should have seen Mitch and the others enjoying their "fruits de mèr". After a nice meal we had some drinks on a nice terrace and went back to the hotel for a sleep. On Friday we had to get up early, enjoyed a nice breakfast and went to the base. It’s a busy day because Mitch has to fly his rehearsal at Cazaux and a second one in Pau. In the mean time the weather is changing and we can see something orange coming between the clouds. It means that our Dutch friends with their orange pride have arrived - as well as clouds.
After a well filled day, we all went to a welcome drink in the officers bar but we didn't make it late….. tomorrow the air show starts.
This is it, Saturday morning. The day of Mitch's first air show, but seems the Gods are testing him…. lot of wind, clouds and a lot of rain.
But after all Mitch did well. Who would have doubts about that? So the day finished well and after the air show we went to the D-day night on the beach. The French really did a great job. The beach was a scene like we can see on the movies from the second world war. On Sunday the day started early again. The weather seems better, but we can’t say its summer here in the south of France.
After a long day and two nice displays from Mitch, the Dutch team invited us to join them for a barbecue. We had a lot of fun and it’s always nice to see how a Dutchmen can enjoy our Belgian beer.
Monday morning…. We can all say that our first weekend was a success. Planes are checked and ok, Mitch and Smurf are ready, thanking everybody. At noon they flew back to Kleine Brogel. The team left 1 hour later with the Embraer to Brussels . The team wants to thank the French air force and everyone who supported us during our first show, au revoir et merci. |
